New York actor Ben McHugh
has never been far from the stage. Initially wanting to be in charge of lighting for his high school production of GREASE, he was persuaded to audition and unexpectedly landed the lead role of Danny Zuko. It was then he discovered his love for the theater and acting. He went on to perform in numerous community musical theater productions, before being accepted in to the prestigious West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) to which he graduated with a BA in Musical Theater.
Ben has since performed in the Australian National Tours of PIRATES OF PENZANCE, SHOUT! THE MUSICAL OF THE WILD ONE and most notably THE PRODUCERS (Directed by Susan Stroman and Associate Choreographer Warren Carlyle) as the "Springtime For Hitler" Lead Tenor - which he was nominated for a Green Room Award. Other productions have included KING LEAR (Oswald), BAREFOOT IN THE PARK (Paul), NO SEX PLEASE...WE'RE BRITISH! (Peter), CHESS (Anatoly), ANYTHING GOES (Billy), A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM (Hero) and TITANIC (Thomas Andrews).
Since relocating to New York City in 2009, he has been seen in various regional and off-Broadway productions including THE SECRET GARDEN (Neville), LIBERTY: A MONUMENTAL NEW MUSICAL (Walker), FIFTY SHADES OF F****D UP (Christian), JEKYLL & HYDE (J&H cover/Lord Savage/Spider), TITANIC (Swing) and TOKIO CONFIDENTIAL (Ralph). He has also toured with MAMMA MIA!, HAIRSPRAY (Corny) and GREASE (Vince).
In 2015, Ben realized a long held dream and made his Broadway debut in MAMMA MIA! covering the lead roles of Sam, Harry & Bill.
He has also appeared in the upcoming SHOWTIME mini-series THE LOUDEST VOICE IN THE ROOM starring Russell Crowe, CBS drama BLUE BLOODS co-starring Donnie Wahlberg, and the critically acclaimed short PICKUP with Mandy Evans-Brown.
He is currently performing in the off-Broadway smash hit SLEEP NO MORE.
